To welcome the fresh batch of campus journalists of the university, the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Main Campus’ Student Publications Office (SPO), The Industrial Wheel, oriented its new members during the Onboarding Activity held at the publication office, Saturday, August 23.

The said activity also served as an avenue to restructure the publication’s internal framework, particularly in terms of appointments and leadership positions including the Editorial Board, Department Heads, and Section Editors.

The newly established organizational structure of the publication is as follows:

Editor-in-Chief: Alrey John Lacaba
Associate Editor: Francine Kaye Resilla
Managing Editor: Brent Jovi Despe
Circulation Manager: Jonas Mansal
Head, Multimedia: Gabriel Angelo Matugas
Head, Creatives: Zean Clifford Dellera
Head, Section Editors: James Magayon

Sports Editor: Mary Fiona Rubenecia
Feature Editor: Princess Ann Adona
Head, Photojournalist: Kent Joygie Tiempo
Head, Videojournalist: Elyssa Lobres
Head, Broadcast: Gabriel Estopa
Head, Graphics: Uriel Joshua Astorga
Head, Arts: Matthew Franklin Isaac Lagrosa

In his welcome address, Mister Rex Palompon, Head/Technical Adviser of the SPO, acknowledged the publication’s journey, citing both its struggles and its resilience throughout the years.

“This publication isn’t perfect—it has its own problems and challenges. But what is beautiful is that, in those crises and trying times, you will see who among them will truly stay. I often share with many that it is not the calm seas that make a skillful fisherman; it is the rough winds and the raging waves that make him experience to do it all,” he said.

Said gathering also served as an opportunity for a strategic planning session for the 21st Charter Anniversary Celebration, where both new and current members of the publication laid out editorial and coverage plans for the said event.

Meanwhile, Jairra Sey Villar, a junior news writer, reflected on the importance of the onboarding activity, sharing how it helped her prepare for her duty as a journalist.

“As a junior news writer, the onboarding activity was very relevant because it made me feel that I’m officially a Wheeler. The lessons and tips they shared helped me with the format of writing—boosted my confidence and equipped me with readiness for the coverage,” Villar said.

The newly appointed positions and members will serve for the duration of the Academic Year 2025-2026.
