A series of events and festivities marked the first day of the two-week-long 21st Charter Anniversary Celebration of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU)–Main Campus on Wednesday, August 27, at the EVSU Grounds.
The celebration, underscoring the university’s continuing journey toward innovation and excellence, opened with a solemn flag-raising ceremony in front of the Administration Building.
Originally set on August 26, most of the activities were postponed due to class suspension caused by inclement weather. The events then resumed collectively on August 27.
Festivities continued at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium with the official Opening Program, led by Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Benedicto T. Militante Jr. through a ceremonial prosperity toast.
Although unable to attend in person, University President Dr. Dennis C. de Paz addressed the audience via video call, expressed his warm welcome to EVSUnistas and challenge to work towards a mission.
“As we officially open this year’s charter anniversary, I invite all of you to work towards this mission. Always remember that the strength of One EVSU lies not in what we are today, but in what we aspire to be,” Dr. de Paz stated.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, the KADIWA Trade Fair Exhibit was officially opened to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by VPAA Militante at the EVSU Grounds.
The ceremony was attended by Director for Research and Development Prof. Bernard Niño Membrebe, Director for Extension Services Rustom Clemente, and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Director Faustino V. Gayas Jr., along with other university officials and students.
In the afternoon, faculty members and non-teaching personnel from various schools and campuses showcased their talents and creativity in the KANYAW: Kanta at Sayaw competition at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium.
Concluding the day was the official opening and ribbon-cutting of the Supreme Student Government (SSG) and Organizations’ Booth Fair, also led by Dr. Militante at the EVSU Open Field.
The celebration will continue in the coming days, featuring a wide array of activities that highlight the resilience, unity, and spirit of the EVSU community.
