SCUAA-8 day three surges; Eagles bag multi-podium finishes

With events in full swing and athletes maintaining strong momentum, contingents from 11 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across Eastern Visayas remained highly competitive on the third day of the 39th Region VIII State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA-8) Games held across different venues in Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte, Wednesday, April 22.

Student-athletes continued to showcase discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship, sustaining the intensity and energy of the regional meet throughout the day.

With strong determination, the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Eagles actively engaged in various sporting events against fellow SUCs, steadily contributing to their overall medal count in the regional competition.

As the matches progressed, several events have already reached their conclusion, including dancesports, karatedo, taekwondo, and pencak silat, where final results and medalists were determined.

Meanwhile, other competitions remain ongoing across different venues, keeping the spirit and excitement of the games alive.

In an interview with, EVSU Eagles karatedo athlete Reynalin de Paz shared her experience, noting that even with thorough preparation, athletes still face immense pressure during actual competition, which can influence performance.

“Bisan ka mag-prepare, kun ada ka na laban, ma-pressure ka talaga. Asya naniguro ako despite hiton na pressure,” de Paz said.

However, she emphasized a positive outlook after securing a bronze medal, highlighting that their efforts and representation of the university remain meaningful.

“Okay la nga bronze kami, importante binuhat namon tanan. Gin-represent namon hin maupay an EVSU, pero asya la an nakaya. Mabawi sunod,” she added.

Sports competitions are set to continue until April 24, with participating SUCs determined to deliver strong performances throughout the remainder of the regional meet.
