Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo secured his second gold medal for the Philippines at the 20th Asian Games after edging Iran’s Mahdi Olfati by 0.066 points in the men’s vault final at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium, Friday.

Yulo added to his medal haul after winning the men’s floor exercise on Thursday with a score of 14.666.

He reached the vault final after helping the Philippine men’s artistic gymnastics team finish sixth in the team event.

Yulo opened with a 14.733 on his first vault before scoring 14.466 on his second attempt to post an average of 14.599.

His combined score put him ahead of Olfati, who settled for silver with 14.533, while Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Ki took bronze with 14.116.

Yulo held off Olfati in a closely contested final to secure the gold.

Meanwhile, fellow Filipino gymnast Miguel Besana finished fifth with an average score of 13.783.

The victory gave Yulo his second gold of the Games after his floor exercise triumph on Thursday.

Yulo now shifts his focus to the men’s parallel bars final, his last event of the competition, later today.
