Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix after edging Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by 0.054 seconds in qualifying at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Saturday, October 10.
The four-time world champion clocked 1:31.373 in Q3 to take the top spot, ahead of Leclerc’s 1:31.427.
Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton qualified third with 1:31.496, followed by Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli in fourth at 1:31.562. McLaren’s Lando Norris completed the top five with 1:31.712.
Verstappen overcame gearbox issues in Q2, describing the shifts as “insanely bad,” before delivering the fastest lap in the final session.
The Dutchman carried his momentum from the earlier Sprint victory into qualifying, putting himself in position to contend for another win in Singapore.
“I want to win tomorrow. I don’t see this as a win in terms of actually winning a Grand Prix,” Verstappen said.
Verstappen will start from the front of the grid for Sunday’s 62-lap race, where he will look to convert his pole position into his first Singapore Grand Prix victory.
The Singapore Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at 8 p.m. Philippine time.
