39th SCUAA-8 Games conclude, Eagles cap fourth-place overall finish

Concluding the Region VIII State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games 2026, the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Eagles clinched a fourth-place standing in the overall tally officially announced during the closing ceremonies held at the Leyte Normal University (LNU) ORC Quadrangle, Friday, April 24.

Carrying the theme “One SCUAA 8: Strengthening Unity Through Sports,” the event gathered delegates, coaches, and officials from 11 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across Eastern Visayas, fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship among participating institutions.

The ceremony marked the culmination of competitions across various sporting events, with the EVSU Eagles finishing their campaign with a total of 165 medals after amassing 33 gold, 83 silver, and 49 bronze medals.

In her closing message, LNU Vice President for Student Development Dr. Joyce Magtolis emphasized that the regional meet continues to evolve through unity and shared commitment.

“We are confident that Eastern Visayas Regional SCUAA will continue to grow stronger, more innovative, and more united. Because in the end, the true measure of this gathering is not only the victories we celebrate today but in the commitment that we carry forward,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Brent Danielle Pogenio, a men’s long jump athlete of the EVSU Eagles, shared that the competition helped him strengthen his discipline and focus as a student-athlete.

“Competing in SCUAA taught me to stay committed and give my best in every performance, knowing that I represent not only myself but my university,” he said.

He also added that he looks forward to returning better prepared and more competitive in the next SCUAA edition.

Furthermore, Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) Tigers was hailed as the overall champion after consistently delivering strong performances across multiple sporting events with Visayas State University (VSU) Phytons finish second place while Leyte Normal University (LNU) securing the overall third placer spot.

As the sporting event came to a close, the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) is set to host its 40th edition.
