EVSU kicks off AY 2025-2026 with first flag-raising ceremony; gears up for Charter Anniv celebration

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Main Campus formally marked the beginning of Academic Year 2025-2026 with its first flag-raising ceremony held Monday morning, August 18, in front of the Administration Building.

Spearheaded by University President Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, the event gathered university key officials, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students, all coming together to welcome the start of a new academic chapter.

The ceremony kick off with a special performance from the Baltsilyer ng Sining sa Filipino (BSF), setting the tone for the month-long celebration of Buwan ng Wika.

In his welcome address, Dr. de Paz reminded the students that the beginning of classes marks not just a return to school, but the start of new possibilities.

“Today marks the first week of classes for Academic Year 2025–2026. This day is a fresh beginning, filled with opportunities to learn, meet new friends, and create meaningful experiences that will shape not only your academic journey but also your future,” said Dr. de Paz.

He also emphasized EVSU’s commitment to holistic student development, noting that learning is not limited within the walls of the classroom.

“Here at EVSU, we believe that education goes beyond the four walls of the classroom. That is why we offer a rich student experience through varied activities from academic, cultural, athletic to leadership opportunities. These activities will support your holistic growth and development. We want you to thrive not only as students, but also as individuals prepared with knowledge and skills to address the complexities of contemporary education,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jaimelyn Baclea-an, a freshman student from the Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BSE), shared her excitement for the journey ahead in her college life in the university.

“I’m looking forward to learn new things, meet new friends, ngan ma-enjoy akon college didi ha EVSU,” the freshman shared.

Further, senior student from the Bachelor of Science in Environmenal Science (BSES), Ana Mae Badillo, shares what she anticipates in this academic year and how it differs from the previous years.

“Of course, much exciting Charter Week. Maaram man kita nga it’s a celebration and gathering of students, expect ko gehap makakita hin new faces — new students, ngan plans for the improvement of our university,” said Badillo.

As classes resume, preparations are also underway for EVSU’s Charter Anniversary Celebration happening next week. Student organizations are actively preparing for co-curricular, cultural, and academic exhibits that aim to highlight the university’s dynamic spirit and sense of unity.

The celebration is expected to bring together the EVSU community in showcasing the institution’s rich history and continued pursuit of excellence.
