With the aim of presenting institutional accomplishments, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) President Dr. Dennis C. de Paz delivered his 4th State of the University Address (SUA) at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium, today, September 1.
In attendance were the key university officials, guests, faculty members, and non-teaching personnel from across the university campuses.
Further, this year’s SUA was notably different as it included student representatives such as the Supreme Student Government (SSG) Presidents and the Editors-in-Chief (EIC) of publications offices from different campuses involving students’ perspectives and a stronger voice for the student body in the discussions.
During the address, Dr. de Paz discussed significant developments across various sectors such as governance, infrastructure, financial resource utilization, research and journal publication, extension services, student development and welfare, as well as licensure examination performance.
He also outlined the future plans for the university, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to advancing climate resilience and sustainability.
Dr. De Paz reiterated that students are the lifeblood of the university, stressing that the institution recognizes the dedication and potential of its students as central to its success in building a brighter future.
“The vibrant community of students is the lifeblood of every university, fueling its intellectual energy and driving its pursuit of knowledge. At EVSU, we recognize that our students’ dedication and potential are the key to our success and our contribution to a brighter future,” said the University President.
Meanwhile, Alex Morfe, Editor-in-Chief of the Observer—the official student publication of EVSU-Ormoc Campus—described the SUA as clear and purposeful, noting that it provided a comprehensive overview of the university’s progress and milestones.
“The President’s State of the University Address was delivered with clarity and purpose. It provided a comprehensive account of the institution’s progress and highlighted milestones that reflect the university’s continued growth,” said Morfe.
Morfe further underscored the significance of including student representatives in the event, emphasizing that this move recognizes students as active partners rather than mere stakeholders in shaping the university’s future, which he viewed as essential for genuine institutional progress.
“The inclusion of student representatives this year is especially significant. It reflects a stronger commitment to participatory governance and reinforces that students are not mere stakeholders but active partners in shaping the university’s direction. That acknowledgment is both empowering and necessary for genuine progress,” he added.
This year’s SUA marked Dr. De Paz’s first university address since his reappointment for a second term as EVSU President on May 16th of this year.
