Amaya Amparo Cojuangco secured silver in the women’s compound individual event after a close 139-137 loss to Indonesia’s Nurisa Dian Ashrifah in the gold-medal match at Ozakaki Chuo Sogo Park, Thursday, October 1.
Cojuangco reached the final after beating Iran’s Bita Asheghzadeh Oskouei, 146-135, in the quarterfinals and South Korea’s Park Jungyoon, 142-141, in the semifinals.
The two archers opened the final level at 28-all after trading shots in the first end.
Ashrifah edged Cojuangco by one point in the second end before Cojuangco kept the deficit to one point, 84-83, after three ends.
Cojuangco answered with 27 points in the fourth end while Ashrifah scored 26 to level the match at 110-all.
With the gold medal on the line, Cojuangco scored 27 points in the final end, but Ashrifah fired 29 to secure the 139-137 victory.
The silver ended the Philippines’ 12-year wait for an Asian Games archery medal after the country last won bronze in 2014.
Cojuangco’s finish also gave the Philippines its fourth silver medal of the Games, joining Jean Claude Saclay in MMA, Marie June Adriano in karate, and the women’s sepak takraw team.
