EVSU Relief Task Force extended aid to Typhoon Odette survivors

Eastern Visayas State University extended assistance and shared sympathies to the Typhoon Odette survivors in Southern Leyte and other affected area in the region through Tabang Hinabang Task Force Relief Operation led by the University President, Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, days after the typhoon onslaught.

Said relief operation is a collaborative effort from the EVSU Community and partnered agencies and organizations.

Said task force, personally led by Dr. De Paz, extended aid to the affected employees of Southern Leyte State University last December 21.

Dr. Benedicto Militante Jr., Office of Research and Development, and Extension Vice President, revealed through a Facebook post that the fund allotted for the EVSU Family Christmas Party was converted instead for the purchase of relief goods to be distributed to employees and staff of SLSU. 

According to the said post, employees of SLSU received assorted items of relief goods such as 40 sacks of rice, 200 jugs of drinking water, 200 Noche Buena package, 5 gallons of alcohol and 20 boxes of facemasks.

Meanwhile, On December 22, 2021, the university task force went to Sabang Daguitan Surf Camp, Dulag Leyte to distribute relief goods to the Nagkaurusa nga Sabangnon Katilingban Service Cooperative (NASAKESECO), and to inspect and assess the extent damage of the place as input to possible extension projects.

Moreover, EVSU Main Campus Supreme Student Government also conducted several donation drives as part of the Tabang Southern Leyte relief operation collaborated by private and local organizations in region 8.

Said relief operation reached 3 waves of distribution in San Francisco and Pintuyan on December 23, San Juan and Liloan on December 29, and Bobon A and Bobon B on January 14.

Collaborators, including Hands Off Our Children – EVSU Chapter, accumulated a total of 19,299 pesos monetary donations together with in kind donations throughout the 3 waves of distribution.

According to an article on EVSU relief operation in the university website, the act of extending assistance is not only a support to the survivors of the typhoon but to give back the help that the university received after the destructions of typhoon Haiyan on 2013 and to show evidence that EVSU is a service-driven university.
