A great performance happens when brilliant artists give the audience a good time, but the stage becomes magical when they unite not just in one goal, but in a shared passion and harmony. It is a composition of sweet melodies, graceful movements, and a community built on a bond treasured for a lifetime.
Fellow EVSUnistas witnessed the stage go live as this year’s Indak at Himig: Alay ng Puso at Kaluluwa concert delivered a breathtaking show. Featuring various dance and singing groups representing students from Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Main Campus and Tanauan Campus, the talent fully transpired at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium on August 26.
In witnessing the amazing talents of these student-artisans, we must never forget the very essence of Indak at Himig—the vibrant community that made it thrive.
Being Up On Stage
Among the first performers was Jake Malda Orbong, a 4th-year Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) student and member of the EVSU Chorale, who saw their performance as an unforgettable experience. Despite feeling nervous at first, everything washed away the moment he stepped into the spotlight alongside his teammates.
“At first syempre maabat talaga kita hin kulba diba, piro kun titikangan mo na tim pag perform as in nawawara nala tim ka kulba tungod nga nag eenjoy kana ngan also mas naddevelope pa better an imo confidence ha tawi nga na support haimo,” he expressed.
Choosing confidence in one’s singing voice is life-changing, but the overwhelming support from the crowd left him exceptionally grateful for the chance to perform on stage.
Fruits of Labor
The people on stage that day were doing more than expressing stories through art; they were student-artists with stories of their own. For Sophia Balansag, a 3rd-year EVSU Chorale member who performed in the Female Medley, challenges and setbacks were inevitable as the team struggled to find balance amid personal obstacles.
“Several setbacks are inevitable, such as the times when we tend to lose our voices due to never-ending rehearsals, get sick, or face personal problems that hold us back from performing without any worries. Though I think that made us stronger as a group—despite these numerous challenges that we had to face, may mahulat la gihap na audiences haamon,” she expressed.
With every challenge they faced, the push they needed to come together was remembering that an audience was waiting. For a student-artist, fulfilling that responsibility and seeing the fruits of their sacrifices makes every struggle worth remembering.
To Climb Higher
Emmanuel B. Agillo from the Likha Dance Group expressed that watching the other acts, especially the performers from the Tanauan Campus, reminded him of what inspired his group in the first place.
“Watching other performances, especially Tanauan Campus, amo an amon na since Day 1 na pagmake han amon group, which is an Likha. Amo an amon ginhihimo na role model,” he expressed.
Great artists bring out the best in one another, pushing each other to climb higher. Getting to witness such outstanding talent leaves an audience not only entertained and fulfilled, but also inspired to refine their own craft.
In The Spirit of Indak and Himig
Whether dancing to the flow of the music or hitting the highest notes, everyone on stage took the crowd’s breath away with raw passion. Yet behind every great performance is the community that gives it life.
In the spirit of Indak at Himig, these artists will always cherish this day—how their hard work and dedication were witnessed by fellow EVSUnistas, and how a community truly flourishes when everyone shares one harmony.
