LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Demonstrating strong dedication to leadership, social responsibility, and professional excellence, three scholars from the Department of Science and Technology – EVSU Scholars’ Council for Leadership Assistance and Responsibilities (DOST-ESCoLAR) participated in the recently concluded 3rd National Patriot Scholars Congress (NPSC) held on September 4-5 at Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu.

Among the representatives of the university were DOST-ESCoLAR scholars Hanz Lier Pesado, Denise Yvonne Arrofo, and Ma. Ellea Zandrei Pascual.

The two-day congress, aligned with the theme “Cultivating the Next Generation of Filipino Science Volunteers,” aimed to promote creative thinking, innovation, and science-driven volunteerism among scholars in addressing local and national challenges to build sustainable youth leadership and strengthen regional councils and university organizations through collaborative efforts.

The key highlight of the congress was the World Café, where delegates presented initiatives in education, socio-civic engagement, and environmental action aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Further, participants also took part in a series of workshops, including leadership mentoring sessions where students were paired to mentor and be mentored by each other.

Meanwhile, Hanz Lier Pesado shared that the event was a meaningful avenue for scholars to grow and lead beyond the academic setting.

“The NPSC was a way to bring out service and leadership from scholars across the Philippines,” said Pesado.

Furthermore, Dr. Jayeel Cornelio, Director of the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), emphasized the importance of returning to one’s roots and empowering others with what was learned.

“When you go back to your communities, your task is to deepen, widen, and heighten the dreams of your people, especially the next generation,” he said.

The NPSC also aimed to institutionalize science-scholar volunteerism through the formation of a National Council of Patriot Scholars, encouraging inclusive and diverse participation from student leaders across the country.
