Showcasing artistic productions in a musical and dance exhibition anchored on an environmental-themed presentation, student artists, faculty, and staff gathered at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium to celebrate Himig at Galaw as part of the continuing 119th Founding Anniversary, Sports, Culture, and the Arts festivities, February 26.
Participating school teams presented original renditions and choreography that highlighted students’ creativity, artistic excellence, and commitment to promoting environmental awareness and cultural expression.
Additionally, Director of the Culture and the Arts Office, Dr. Jerry Mores, together with the board of judges, emphasized that the festival serves not only as a competition but also as a platform to raise awareness of environmental issues and preserve the rich cultural identity of Eastern Visayas.
The announcement of winners marked the highlight of the event, with the School of Education (SED) sweeping the Quartet, Choral, and Street Dance competitions as overall champion.
Meanwhile, in the Quartet category, which features four vocalists performing in harmony and blending, the School of Architecture and Allied Discipline (SAAD) placed second, followed by the School of Engineering (SOE) in third place.
Additionally, in the Choral competition, where a larger ensemble of singers performs coordinated vocal arrangements emphasizing harmony and dynamics, SAAD secured second place while the School of Technology (SOT) finished third.
In the Street Dance event, the competition exhibited synchronized and interpretative movements, with SOT earning second place and SAAD placing third.
In an interview, SED street dance performer Emmanuel Agillo expressed appreciation for the school’s support and acknowledged the challenges the team overcame to achieve their goal.
“We feel malipayon kay na-achieve namon an title as a champion. Maupay hiya nga experience even though diri sugad kadali an amon behind the scenes, but still aada an amon commitment ngan an amon passion. Amo an bagan nag-push ha amon nga makuha kun ano an amon nakuha yana,” Agillo said.
As the Himig at Galaw Musical Competition concluded, the festival proceeded to its remaining cultural and artistic events, including the Pagsadyaw Festival to be held at the same venue.
