With synchronized moves and red costumes painting the venue, the School of Engineering (SOE) emerged as the overall champion in the University Students’ Welcome Activity & Gathering (USWAG) 2025 held at Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Main Campus Open Field on Friday, September 5.

USWAG, a long tradition in EVSU since 2019 welcoming freshmen as they officially begin their academic journey in the university, aimed not only to introduce university life but also to strengthen camaraderie among different schools within the campus.

Kicking off the day’s festivities was the annual freshmen batch pictorial held in front of the Administration Building, followed by the colorful and vibrant USWAG Walk passing the university’s iconic ‘EVSU’ letters leading to the Open Field.

In his USWAG message, University President Dr. Dennis de Paz expressed his warmest welcome to the new students, also encouraging everyone to enjoy the booths, join in the fun, and take pride in their respective colleges and campuses.

“My dear freshmen students, USWAG, pasok kayo to EVSU, you are all very much welcome. Enjoy the festivities of this last day of our Charter Celebration and you’re also welcome to visit our booths. Uswag also to your respective colleges and external campuses,” said Dr. de Paz.

In the awarding ceremony, the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) and the School of Technology (SOT) clinched the first and second runners-up, respectively, rewarded after both securing special awards.

Moreover, SOT secured The Spectacle Award, which recognized the most vibrant group presentation, while SAS stood out with their powerful voices and school spirit, earning the Best in Chant and Yell award.

Further, the School of Education (SOED) bagged the Best in Choreography award for their well-executed performance, while the SOE’s Dean Dr. Vinyl Oquino received the Best Statement Challenge for his rousing speech before SOE’s performance.

Meanwhile, freshman student Samuel Rosialda from the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program couldn’t hide his emotions after SOE was declared the overall winner.

“I feel great and nice. It feels like I’ve been out from the heavy burdens on my shoulder. I’m beyond happy,” he said.

The event ended with a fireworks display and the annual Pasasalamat Night in conclusion to the university’s 21st Charter Anniversary Celebration.
