To prepare freshmen students in their year-long tarry in the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) for the Academic Year 2023-2024, the Student Affairs and Services Office (SASO) kicked off its first day of Student Onboarding Program held at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium, Monday, October 2.

The first day of the said orientation was attended by key officials, faculty, staff, and freshman students from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Architecture and Allied Discipline (CAAD) headed by their respective college deans.

In her speech, Dr. Glenda B. Tupaz, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences took pride in the holistic development of their college as all of its programs are amenable to Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC).

“All the programs in the College of Arts and Sciences are COPC Compliant for CMO 14 Series of 2019. Just recently this Friday, the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry was endorsed for a COPC to the Comission on Higher Education, but that’s good as approved. So congratulatIons to the faculty and everyone for this milestone we have marked in the college,” Dr. Tupaz said.

Moreover, in a welcome message by Dr. Sonia T. Enrile, SASO Director, she expressed her pleasurable welcome to the freshmen students who attended the said program.

“It is our pleasure to extend a warm welcome to each one of you. Your presence remarks the beginning of a transformative experience. One that promises growth learning and a wealth of unforgettable memories,” she said.

Dr. Enrile also stated that she is thrilled to embark on their journey, with commitment to provide support, resources, and opportunities the freshman students need, and how the students will practice camaraderie among their peers.

“During the Students Onboarding, you will have the chance to familiarize yourselves with our campus, with the different services of the university, you are going to connect with your peers, and give valuable insights into the academic and extra-curricular offering that awaits you,” Dr. Enrile added.

The said orientation was led by the different heads and representatives of university offices tackling the university policies, cashiering and accounting office processes, dental health and medical services, security unit, and services offered by the Printing Press Office, Registrar’s Office, Gender and Development (GAD) and Guidance Services Office (GSO).

Meanwhile, Wenche L. Lorica, a first year student of Bachelor of English Language, expressed the importance of the said orientation, and explained how the activity will make her more dutiful in the university.

“The knowledge that was conveyed to us during the orientation will be valuable as it will guide us to get up with the flow of the day to day activities within the university. Knowing the university’s norms and regulations will enable us to be more respectful and obedient. The university’s respective offices as well as the employees that have been introduced during the orientation are well known,” she said.

Lorica also added that she found the activity as an enjoyable and memorable experience that made her appreciate the university more.
