Three students dead, 13 wounded in Tacloban school shooting

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — Three students were killed and 13 others were wounded in a school shooting at San Jose National High School, Monday morning, June 22.

According to an initial report from the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO), the incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. inside the school premises in Barangay San Jose and was reported to authorities two minutes later.

Tacloban police confirmed that the two suspects were taken into custody and are currently being held at Tacloban City Police Station 1.

Department of Education Tacloban City Division Information Officer Nilo Eder confirmed in an interview that the victims were immediately rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Teachers, school staff and parents present at the scene received counseling from the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Moreover, the Tacloban Rescue Unit transported the remaining injured students to health care facilities for further medical attention.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives conducted an investigation following the incident, with TCPO confirming that the scene was cleared at 3:15 p.m.

Following the investigation, authorities released the bodies of the deceased to their families.

The Tacloban City Information Office announced the suspension of classes at San Jose National High School, San Jose Central School and Manlurip Elementary School following the incident.

The school said classes will resume once recommendations from authorities and experts are issued.
