Univ opens new academic year, welcomes EVSUnistas back to campus

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Main Campus formally opened Academic Year (A.Y.) 2026-2027 and welcomed students back to campus through a flag-raising ceremony in front of the Administration Building on Monday, August 17.

The opening ceremony was attended by University President Dr. Dennis de Paz, key university officials, students, teaching personnel and non-teaching staff.

In his welcome address, the university president greeted freshmen and continuing students, urging them to begin the academic year with optimism, face challenges with courage, support one another and contribute to a university environment where everyone can learn, grow and succeed.

“As we open this first semester, let us begin with renewed energy and optimism. Let us face the coming months with courage and determination. Let us support one another, celebrate one another’s achievements, and continue building a university where everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and excel,” Dr. de Paz said.

During the ceremony, the university’s key officials were introduced to the students, followed by the opening of the Buwan ng Wika celebration.
In an interview, Ashley Lumada, a first-year Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) student, expressed her excitement about beginning a new chapter as a freshman at EVSU.

“As a freshman po didi ha EVSU-Main, nakaka-panibago since it’s a new environment, new people, and a new chapter for me, so I am excited to have good friends, learn new things, and experience what college life is really like,” Lumada said.

She added that she intends to enjoy the experience and take things one step at a time, acknowledging that she may not feel fully ready yet but is excited to begin her college journey at EVSU-Main.

Meanwhile, Klouie Jane Destrajo, a second-year Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE) student, said she looks forward to deepening her knowledge, enhancing her skills and gaining new experiences despite the challenges of taking mostly major subjects.

“As a second-year BSECE student at EVSU, I look forward to learning more about electronics, improving my skills, and gaining new experiences this school year. I know that the subjects may be challenging, especially since most of them are major subjects, but I’m hoping to learn from every experience and do my best,” Destrajo said.

According to data from the Office of the Registrar, 3,223 first-year students were enrolled at EVSU-Main Campus as of August 17.
The first day of classes included discussions of course syllabi, class orientations, and introductions to programs, courses, subjects, and instructors.

Meanwhile, preparations for this year’s Charter Celebration are underway, with various organizations gearing up for the upcoming University Students’ Welcome Activity and Gathering (USWAG) festivities.
