
Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Language and Literature Department (LLD) officially opened an on-site English Month celebration on November 7 at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Building lobby.
After two years of confinement to online activity, the LLD conducted the opening of its English Month celebration with the theme βConverging English Language Teaching and Ecological Consciousness Towards Sustainable Learning,β which highlighted the celebration’s value as the essence of face-to-face celebration was put into the spotlight.
According to Dr. Glenda B. Tupaz, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean, the gathering during the English month celebration is an inspiration itself for both students and teachers in appreciating the English language.
“Your presence this afternoon is actually an inspiration. My presence (as a teacher) is an inspiration. Our presence this afternoon is an inspiration,β the college dean said.
Moreover, Dr. Glenda Tupaz, reiterated to students the importance of appreciating the English language as the competence and proficiency that one must develop.
“We hope that you will appreciate the importance of the English language, the communicative competence and at the same time, English proficiency that we have to develop,” Dr. Tupaz said.
Meanwhile, Jaime Gravador, a Bachelor of Arts in English Language (BAEL) student also said that the face-to-face celebration has led to the appreciation of the essence of celebrating English month.
“I really believe that onsite activities supplicates genuine interaction of students, teachers, and esteems the real essence of celebrating English month. It is always important to witness physical learning as it vests the best of the English language for all,β he said.
Additionally, Dr. Cristina Polancos, Language and Literature Department (LLD) Head, stated that the English month celebration is an avenue to emphasize the value of the English language.
“This activity is an avenue to promote the use of the English language as the most valuable language to this day and beyond because this is the dominant language in the academe, in the business industry, and even in the online world,β the department head said.
Meanwhile, the official opening program set off in the afternoon with various activities – an engaging vocal presentation, emotional spoken poetry, and an upbeat dance mob from selected BAEL students.
