Eastern Visayas State University’s (EVSU) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Business and Entrepreneurship (COBE) graduates marched toward a new chapter as they took part in the second day of the 103rd Commencement Exercises held on June 18 at the Leyte Academic Center, Palo, Leyte.
A total of 722 degrees were conferred to students who successfully fulfilled the requirements of their respective academic programs—341 graduates from CAS and 381 from COBE.
University President Dr. Dennis C. de Paz delivered an inspiring Commencement Address, urging the graduates to view failure not as a setback but as an opportunity for redirection and growth.
“So in life, you will face shifting times. You will face detours in your goals and you will experience failures in your plans. But remember, these failures are not the end of your journey. There are simply chances to steer in a new direction,” said Dr. de Paz.
He also emphasized the importance of upholding the EVSUNISTA legacy—being trustworthy, respectable, and consistently striving for excellence.
Selected student-graduates were honored with the UniFAST Academic Excellence Award, presented by Dr. Leo D. Camposano, OIC-Chief Education Program Specialist. Other top distinctions, including the Senator Villar Excellence Award and the University President’s Medal of Excellence, were also awarded.
Among the graduating class was Peter Luke B. Veloso, a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship graduate, Cum Laude, and one of EVSU’s Most Outstanding Campus Journalists of the Year, who reflected on his journey as a student leader.
“I will surely miss those moments of being a student leader. Albeit my time as one was short, it shaped me the most during my college years. It was a make-or-break moment in my life that truly tested the limits of my ability to endure stress,” he expressed.
Veloso shared that the experiences and lessons he gained at EVSU will serve as his compass as he steps into the next stage of his life.
