Music. The warmest comfort one could ever receive, the sweetest serenade one could ever hear, and the safest place one could tell a story. In this year’s 36th Regional SCUAA Meet, music becomes an avenue to our story – of oneness, of one region

The celebration of State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Meet is a season of gathering State Universities and Colleges in the whole Region 8 that is diversified from one another. Anchored on a theme “Bayanihan Through Sports,” a SCUAA Jingle was created to tell a story of camaraderie and unity of the region as one. Hence, the song “One Region” by a student named Alyssa Bridget Labastida from SCUAA 2022’s host school Southern Leyte State University (SLSU).

“How I was able to come up with the lyrics was through the insights from the theme for this year’s SCUAA meet, and it was “Bayanihan through Sports” that is about traditional Filipino culture where we help one another,” said Ms. Labastida, the singer and composer of the song.

The song was the embodiment of the 11 delegation’s oneness despite the battle against each other in vying for victory.

“One, One Region; One Soul. One, One Region; One Goal,”

Just like its chorus, this year’s SCUAA meet is not all about the rivalry, it’s about the essence of uniting as one. For having the same spirit of winning and having the same goal of not alone for victory, but establishing teamwork and friendship as well.

Moreover, the song’s title was inspired from the passion and drive of SUC’s in the Region to go beyond the walls of differences amongst each other. That despite the difference in language, in culture, and in geography, delegations are still able to build connections and find a way to unite.

“One region because we are one. Even if we are diversified, because we came from different provinces in Region 8… We’re still connected, we’re still one,” Ms. Labastida added

Furthermore, as the official jingle of SCUAA 2022, “One Region” aims to leave a message to the listeners that there is unity between diversity and there is unity despite adversity. Additionally, it also show off that Region 8 has a lot to offer.

“The song tells about how we stand up, how we rise with the challenges [like pandemic], and it is also about showing everyone, not just in our region, but to all nation and to the world that Region 8 is a home for talented and gifted,” Ms. Labastida explained

With vibe and feels that lies within a song’s lyrics, music has the power to leave an impact to the listeners. It’s either something that gives the warmth in our hearts, or something that tells a story that would inspire us in life. Surely, “One Region” is a song that tells the story of 11 SUC’s who dueled against each other but still find the way as one.
