Braving Through A Dream

Days, months, and years of hard work and preparations lead to a moment in life where all proved their worth.

For Mr. Kant Dumas, this moment was the November 2023 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination; a shining embodiment of dedication and discipline, marking his story as an inspiration for aspiring engineers across the province and nation as a whole.

Kant Dumas discovered his passion for civil engineering quite late in his college life. Like others, he was still in doubt what to take up when he entered college. And because of this, he chose the course civil engineering for reasons outside of a personal want.

“I listed civil engineering for two reasons: 1) my father being a civil engineering alumnus himself, and 2) my senior high classmates are also choosing it,” the board topnotcher said.

He later realized after the entrance examination his desire to pursue chemical engineering instead. He tried to change it, but to no avail.

“After passing the entrance exam, I realized I actually wanted to pursue chemical engineering, which was my 2nd choice. And I tried changing it by talking to the head of the Chemical Engineering Department, but was denied. It was then that I accepted to continue in the path of civil engineering,” Dumas said.

Such may have been a sign for a future of a great feat in the field of civil engineering as well as in the history of BSCE in Eastern Visayas State University.

“With the help of various instructors making the course more enticing, whether it be through sharing of experiences or through passionate teaching of topics, I learned to love my course. I also met my girlfriend here, so padayon nala gud ak,” he said.

As the licensure examination approached, just like any other board takers, he devoted countless hours to intensive preparation. This hard work and discipline came to fruition on the day of the licensure examination for civil engineers, November 17 to 18 of 2023.

The result? Kant Dumas etched at the top of the list of successful examinees, ranking at the 7th spot.

His achievement extends beyond personal success; it serves as a guiding light for future civil engineers, especially to aspiring civil engineers of Eastern Visayas State University. His journey exemplifies the rewards of hard work and dedication, inspiring a path of discipline for others to look up to in their journey as well attaining a dream.

Now a registered civil engineer, he wishes the students to brave through the struggles of college and advised to not be afraid in inquiring insights from others.

“For the current students, diri niyo kalaban an aton professors, pwede niyo hira daupan kun may questions kamo. Ayaw kahadlok pagsulod ha faculty room. Padayon la, pero pahuway gihap kun kinakailangan,” the civil engineering alumnus said.

To the board takers, Kant Dumas advised to put yourself at ease, don’t stress.

“Makuri daan it exam, ayaw na pakuria tim sarili. You have the time. Use it wisely. Don’t be afraid to ask questions,” he said.

Undoubtedly, his journey stands as an anthem to those who believe in the transformative power of passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence. A success not only made by oneself, but with the help of support of others. A victory not only for oneself, but for aspirants and for generations to come.
