EVSU Eagles’ men’s football team closed out their campaign in this year’s Regional SCUAA Games laced with a bronze medal today, October 26 here at the VSU-Main Campus in Baybay City.

The third-place finish came after their 2-1 defeat to ESSU Praying Mantis, who also dealt them their first loss last Tuesday.

Starting the tournament’s final day with a shootout victory against the BiPSU Tigers, the Eagles saw their gold medal hopes slip away despite midfielder Julius Coringcoting opening the scoring festivities in the first half.

But that was all the footballers would produce as the Praying Mantis countered with two shots meeting the back of the net.

Coringcoting, who missed the definitive spot kick against the Praying Mantis, had a redemption day for himself after giving the Eagles their much-needed lifeline.

Prior to the afternoon loss, he netted the fourth and final shot past the Tigers’ keeper during the tiebreaker to put the Eagles up, 4-3.

Eagles goalie Keith Tolibas then sealed the deal after denying the last BiPSU penalty taker to secure EVSU of a podium spot.

The squad concluded their run on a high note with an impressive 4-2 record, claiming the other three wins over PIT Sea Lions (twice) and SLSU Mighty Kingfishers.
