In a showcase of innovation and technical expertise, students from the Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE) stood with pride as they clinched the overall champion spot during the Engineering Research Proposal Pitching Contest, held at the Engineering Building, February 19.

The winning proposal, titled “AIRNET – Air Quality Information Reporting Network for Environmental Tracking,” was presented by Ramon Angelo Noel, Jericho Francisco, and Acie Sode, fourth-year students of the said program.

The project aims to mitigate the impact global warming in the community by providing a cost-effective way and accessible method to monitor air quality in terms of greenhouse gases concentration in real-time, aiming to contribute to environmental tracking and promote a healthier future for communities.

“This research is not just about technology; it’s about impact. It’s about empowering communities, guiding policymakers, and contributing to a cleaner and healthier future. By supporting this project, you are investing in an innovative and sustainable solution that can make a real difference,” the team shared to The Industrial Wheel.

Meanwhile, Fruen Consus, a senior from the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BSChe) expressed the significance of the event in allowing students to address and solve real-world problems.

“As students, our participation cultivates crucial skills such as creating new research methodologies, problem-solving methods, critical thinking, communication, and, of course, teamwork. It also allows us students to engage in current world problems and find ways to mitigate or solve them,” said Consus.

The ECE team bagged the overall champion honor after securing the top spot for the Smart Technologies and Automation category with both teams from the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) claimed the second and third spots.

The research proposal pitching contest was organized by the College of Enginering (COE) as part of the university’s 118th Founding Anniversary celebration.

Meanwhile in the Sustainable Engineering Solutions category, team from the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) acquired the top spot while both groups from the BSChE finished second and third, respectively.
