To provide EVSUnistas with more convenient access to online government services, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 8 officially launched the eGov Kiosk at the Administration Building of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Main Campus on Monday, February 23.
The initiative aims to streamline access to various government services through a centralized digital platform, enabling users to process documents, submit applications, and complete other transactions more efficiently.
In an interview, Marielle Bolo, an EVSUnista from the Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) program, said the kiosk serves as an accessible resource for students, particularly those without mobile phones, as it allows them to easily browse, search, and access essential information and services.
“This [technology] is good ha tanan since it’s an easy access for the people, mapidlit kala ngan ma-provide na hiya hin mga information, it’s good for some people na waray phone,” she said.
Additionally, John Gabriel Quejada, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) student, highlighted that the kiosk offers additional features such as real-time news updates, further enhancing its functionality beyond access to government services.
“In one word it’s ‘convenient,’ for what I know eGov Kiosk gince-centralize niya an mga government procedures. And also kanina han program, na-heard ko gihap na an kiosk mayda feature na news, nahatag hin update, pwede kala mag search,” Quejada said.
Further, fellow BSIT student Khane Niño Java added that the kiosk helps students easily access and monitor their academic benefits, making it more convenient for them to stay informed about available services and university support.
“Mayda hiya mga application and reliable hiya pag-check han imo mga benefits as a student,” Java shared.
He further stated that the kiosk includes a virtual ID feature that allows users to access government-issued identification cards such as the National ID, PhilHealth ID, and other official IDs.
Meanwhile, a faculty member from the School of Engineering (SOE), Mr. Dindo Obediencia, who also attended the launching of the kiosk, emphasized its benefits, noting that it allows users to conveniently access services from different government agencies and make inquiries in a single location.
“You have access to different government agencies, any inquiries can be done through that kiosk,” he stated.
He also shared that the university’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Office will oversee the maintenance of the kiosk.
Moreover, the eGov Kiosk provided by the DICT features applications comparable to those found on standard portable devices, such as Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Copilot, and Microsoft Store, along with basic tools that may be used for various purposes, including Maps, Calculator, and Camera.
The launching of the eGov Kiosk forms part of the university’s 119th Founding Anniversary, Sports, Culture, and Arts Celebration.
