BAYBAY CITY, Leyte—Demonstrating both academic excellence and leadership capabilities, Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering (BSGE) students of Eastern Visayas State University–Main Campus placed first in the Quiz Show Competition and secured the second spot in the Map Making Contest during the Visayas Geodetic Engineering Student Conference (VisGESC) 2026, held at the Visayas State University (VSU) RDE Hall on April 7-8.

‎The two-day conference brought together geodetic engineering students from EVSU, VSU, and Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), along with members of the SLSU YouthMappers organization and faculty advisers, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across institutions.

‎EVSU’s Team Stellar, composed of Ma. Kristina Bernadette P. Costa, Noel Clyde Cabiao, and Marc Angelo Villena, emerged as champions in the Quiz Show Competition, while the team of Kiffer Caranyagan, Vince Jade Gulrajani, and Dennis Morastil earned second place in the Map Making Contest.

‎Further underscoring the university’s student leadership, second-year BSGE student Marx Renze Marticio was elected as the 2nd President of the Visayas Association of Geodetic Engineering Students (VAGES) during the plenary session, presided over by interim president of VAGES, Joseph Tan.

‎In addition, Ma. Kristina Bernadette P. Costa was appointed as one of the Vice Presidents of VAGES, alongside Lawrence Encienzo of the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines-VSU Student Chapter.

‎In an interview, a representative of EVSU and member of Team Stellar, Ma. Kristina Bernadette P. Costa highlighted the significance of the event for students in the field of geodetic engineering.

‎”Our field is a bit niche so having the opportunity to exchange experiences with other students from different institutions allows us to learn from them while also building networks that can support academic and professional growth.” Costa highlighted.

‎She also shared that their team had little to no preparation and initially expected to be eliminated in the first round, but still managed to advance further in the competition.

‎The VisGESC 2026 served as a platform for academic exchange and strengthened collaboration among geodetic engineering students across the Visayas region.
