To deliver a strong performance for this year’s State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Meet, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Eagles enhance their preparatory efforts at various training venues a week ahead of the athletic competitions, April 17.

Anchored by the theme “One SCUAA 8: Strengthening Unity Through Sports,” the 39th SCUAA Games will be held in Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte, with EVSU as main host, while Leyte Normal University (LNU) and University of the Philippines–Tacloban College (UPTC) serve as co-host institutions, gathering student-athletes from 11 state universities and colleges (SUCs) across Eastern Visayas.

With the clash for supremacy drawing near, EVSU Eagles set their sights on victory as they continue conducting daily training sessions to hone their skills.

In an interview with The Industrial Wheel, Joross Pelito, captain of Esports men’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), said they aim to defend their title and showcase their strength against challengers.

“Through tam practices, we will try to defend our title this upcoming SCUAA and prove that EVSU is still the number one in Esports,” Pelito shared.

Alongside training, volleyball player Carl Gerome Delantar highlighted their SCUAA experience and teamwork as a competitive edge that strengthens their bid in the tournament.

“Usa nga edge namon kay kaurugan ha amon team naka-experience na hin SCUAA, and mayda liwat kami teamwork. Pero in terms ha skills, I can say nga may laban liwat nam given tam training these past few days,” Delantar stated in an interview.

Meanwhile, despite the lack of equipment, softball coach Jose Polonia expressed that they maximize their available and old resources in pursuit of good results.

“Kulang kami hin equipment pero ginta-try la gihap namon bisan it amon mga gamit daan—an amon la maging maupay it resulta hit amon mulay,” said coach Polonia.

Additionally, for precautionary purposes, athletes undergo medical examinations and secure medical certificates issued by authorized physicians to ensure they can withstand the demands of training and competition.

“Diri magiging athlete it bata kun diri hira physically fit. Mayda hito form nga ginhahatag ha doctor para ig-test hira. Ngan kun waray failure, may ada hiton medical certificate nga gini-issue ha ira,” coach Polonia added.

After finishing as first runner-up in the 38th Regional SCUAA-8 Games 2024 with a 168-medal haul, the EVSU Eagles now brace for their return to the podium, aiming to build on their previous campaign as they enter this year’s event.
