With joined preparation and faith, the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) bet in Pagsulat ng Sanaysay, Chessa Mae A. Serrano finished second place in the literary arts competition during the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges Regional Cultural and Arts Festival 2023, October 18, at Visayas State University (VSU) Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Baybay City, Leyte.
Drawn by a collaborative effort of mental and spiritual preparation, the Pagsulat ng Sanaysay contender winged her way to the silver linings of victory through her labor of practicing to write about various possible topics in the competition, reading books and relevant articles, and establishing a strong foundation of faith.
“Una, binigyan po ako ng aking coach ng mga posibleng paksa na maari naming sulatan ng sanaysay. Pangalawa, nanalangin muna bago ang kompetensiyon. Pangatlo, nagbasa ng mga aklat na mayroong kaugnayan at nagsearch sa internet. (First, my coach gave me possible topics that may appear in the competition. Second, I prayed before competing. Third, I read books and other related articles in the internet ),” Serrano shared.
Anchored on the subject “Pagsulong ng Artificial Intelligence, Kaakibat ng Edukasyon” Serrano angled her essay by narrowing down the aid of artificial intelligence from different aspects of life into its integration into education.
According to her, the inclusion of artificial intelligence might have offered convenience and have emulated the minds of humanity. Still, it would remain an imitation of a human who has an innate characteristic and ability that can never be placed with.
“Ang Artificial Intelligence ay isang kasangkapan lamang. Taglay man nito ang katalinuhan ng tao, ngunit hindi nito mapapantayan ang tunay na katangian ng isang tunay na tao (Artificial Intelligence is a support only [to education]. It may be intellegent as human, but it can never have the innate characteristic and ability of human),” Serrano emphasized.
After long hours of anticipation, Serrano achieved a silver win, and the university finally marked its first badge of victory in this year’s PASUC-8 Culture and Arts Festival.
Owing to her experiences, Serrano underscored that she will carry a lesson and aspiration after winning second place in Pagsulat ng Sanaysay.
“Nag iiwan ng marka yung mga aral na nakukuha ko mula sa kompetisyon na ito. Nilolook forward ko na sana may opportunity na lumapit saakin about sa larangang ito (The competition left a mark that serve as a lesson. I look forward to more opportunities in this field [after winning]),” she expressed.
Carrying the theme “Championing Artistic Excellence, Celebrating Solidarity” of this year’s PASUC-8 celebration, the university hopes for more victory as the Cultural and Arts competition continues with Serrano’s starter and flagship of university’s excellence.
