With the final schedule set for September 11, freshmen from various schools of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Main Campus are now intensifying their daily rehearsals for the upcoming University Students’ Welcome Activity and Gathering (USWAG), Monday, September 7.
The Office of University President (OUP) released an advisory issue through Memorandum No. 01-09-2026, adjusting from September 17 to September 11, to minimize class disruptions and avoid rehearsal conflicts with academic schedules.
Following the rescheduling, schools are holding daily practices to help students memorize their chants, steps and formations for a synchronized and energetic presentation.
Further, facilitators and choreographers from different schools have tasked their students in finalizing their department-specific costumes and refine intricate props that are necessary to complete prior the day of the performance.
In an interview with the choreographer of the School of Education (SED), and a second-year student from Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED), Jevon Francial, said that despite changing the date for USWAG, they will still give their best in preparing the freshmen for their upcoming performance.
“Sa totoo lang po, nakakagulat po talaga na na-reschedule yung competition ng USWAG. Mas preferred po sana namin yung September 17 kasi mas makakapaghanda pa po kami nang maayos. Pero kahit September 11 po ang bagong date, gagawin pa rin po namin yung best namin para ma-prepare ang freshmen,” he said.
Francial further shared that preparing for USWAG involves more than teaching steps, drawing on his own past experience as a first-year student, noting that their early participation taught them the vital role of discipline, patience, teamwork, and confidence for major events.
Moreover, first-year students continue rehearsing under the heat and into the late evening, polishing their routines as USWAG approaches.
Meanwhile, a freshman student Edrian Yu from the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) of the School of Engineering (SOE), stated that despite the sudden rescheduling of USWAG and the limited time remaining, their school would still do its best to make its preparations worthwhile, though securing another championship title seemed unlikely.
“When the USWAG was suddenly rescheduled, I felt the pressure, not just on myself but to the School Of Engineering. With the remaining days, I don’t think that our school will achieve the title of being a champion once more but we will do our very best, to make our beloved School of Engineering. We’ll make sure that the preparation were making ahead of the presentation will be worth it,” Yu said.
The said welcoming activity is part of the 22nd Charter Celebration with the theme “One EVSU 2.0: Sustaining Excellence and Resiliency for Global Impact,” aiming to foster student involvement and engagement as they participate in their first event in the university.
