Ormoc Campus’ Supreme Student Government (SSG) President Quiruben B. Dejaño officially took over the leadership of the Federation of Student Government (FSG) of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), held at the Main Campus’ Executive House, Thursday, August 8.
The assemblage of various SSG Presidents included Hon. Kyle Cardeño of the Main Campus, Hon. Rainer Joshua D. Costa of Burauen Campus, Hon. Rochelle P. Naadat of Carigara Campus, Hon. Quiruben B. Dejaño of Ormoc Campus, Hon. Atashalyn Paulino of Tanauan Campus, and Hon. Glenford V. Abad of Dulag Campus, facilitated by the Student Affairs and Services Office (SASO) through the Student Affairs Office, in cooperation with the Student Publication Office (SPO) – The Industrial Wheel.
President Dejaño outlined in his acceptance speech the initial focus of his term on revising the EVSU Student Handbook, signaling a commitment to addressing the needs of the student body.
“Thank you for the trust and I hope that we will work together to make EVSU better, we still have a lot of work to do such as the student handbook revision, so I hope we will work well, work hard, and study hard,” President Dejaño said.
Additionally, he underscored the importance of identifying first what certain needs of the campuses are to be addressed before taking an action. This is in response to the significant disparity in resources and capabilities between the Main and the External Campuses.
“The first thing we should do is to assess what level of neediness [is present] among the campuses. For example, in Ormoc Campus, they have certain needs that should be fulfilled and other campuses such as Tanauan, Carigara, Burauen, Dulag, and the Main Campus. In Engineering, we have what we call Engineering Economics. We are going to assess first the level of neediness before we give a certain amount of resources,” Pres. Dejaño added.
During the opening program, EVSU Main Campus – Student Affairs Office (SAO) Head Eliditha Easter H. Gervacio highlighted in her welcome message the importance of student involvement in shaping long-term goals for the university.
“Your participation in this election is not just a vote, it’s also a powerful expression of your vision for our school’s future,” Prof. Gervacio said.
Moreover, Student Affairs and Services Office (SASO) Director Dr. Sonia T. Enrile underlined in her closing remarks the significance of student leadership in serving the university community.
“Whatever your platform of government will be, religiously try to follow and do it. You should try to always do what is best for the university, what is best for the student government, what is best for the entire community,” Dr. Enrile said.
The FSG newly-elected president has now the assumed control of opening a new period of leadership, bringing the continual development of the whole EVSU community.
