Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) is further expanding its horizons as University President Dennis C. De Paz extended the university’s cooperation with the local government unit (LGU) of Babatngon and the City Environment & Natural Resources Office (CENRO) – Palo with a Deed of Donation and Memorandum Signing, February 14, Tuesday, at the Administration Building Lobby.
The signing, together with Babatngon Mayor Eleonor Lugnasin and CENRO – Palo Officer Crisostomo Badeo, was conducted during the university’s 116th Foundation Week anchored on the theme ‘One EVSU: Leveraging work passion and dedication.’
Deed of Donation
The LGU of Babatngon has donated ten hectares of land situated at Brgy. Rizal, Babatngon to the university for the establishment of a satellite campus in the municipality.
Mayor Eleonor Lugnasin has expressed her elation with the venture, saying this will be a tremendous help to the municipality as well as students from surrounding municipalities who will have easier access to the university.
“Once the establishment of a satellite campus in Babatngon is complete, we are sure that we can help other students coming from different municipalities like Sta. Rita who won’t have to commute all the way to Tacloban, as well as improve the municipality’s economy,” Hon. Lugnasin said.
Memorandum of Agreement
A Memorandum of Agreement between the university and CENRO was signed in hopes of adopting national greening program sites and collaborating with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in managing these plantage sites and increasing the plantage population of botanical species.
CENRO – Palo Officer Crisostomo E. Badeo said that the university’s adoption of a national greening site enables their office to avoid wasting government funds by letting other sectors contribute their knowledge to the greening program.
“The adoption is for the specific purpose of increasing the survival of these plantage species, and the intention is to make sure that we do not waste government funds so we involved different sectors and share with us how we can increase this survival rate,” Officer Badeo said.
