In pursuit of saving lives and extending a hand in aiding the blood scarcity of Region 8, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) conducted the ‘Dugo Mo, Kinabuhi Ko: A Bloodletting Drive’ in line with the 116th Foundation Anniversary celebration at the university Administrative Building Lobby, Wednesday, February 15.

With full support from the EVSU – National Service Training Program (NSTP), Kusog Sinirangan Eagle’s Club, RadNet5, Office of the Civil Defense and Eastern Visayas Medical Center, a total of 98 donors were recorded, where 22 donors were deferred while 76 donors successfully donated their blood.

According to Carigara Campus Director Dr. Ronald Madera, Chairperson of the Dugo Mo, Kinabuhi Ko: A Bloodletting Drive, the activity was suggested to support the need of blood in the region, and mainly aimed to preserve life.

“The university suggested to have this kind of activity as the highlight of the 116th Founding Anniversary because the region have scarcity of blood, and this is one way to support this need of blood and to ensure that we will be saving more lives,” Dr. Madera said.

Jaime Gravador, a Bachelor of English Language student of the university and one of the blood donors, believed that the conduct of this activity is an awakening to the university community that sharing blood is more than just the idea of donating.

“This kind of activity is a big help and a good eye opener to others to understand the essence of sharing blood, and highlights the importance of blood as a foundation of life as well as a reason why we live today,” Gravador said.

The said activity was conducted with safety processes in which blood donors were examined prior to their blood donation, and were provided with food and hygiene kit courtesy of the Office of the Civil Defense.

Collected blood donations will be deposited at the blood bank of Eastern Visayas Medical Center.
