
PALOMPON, Leyte — Commencing this year’s cultural and artistic festivities, delegates of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) secured multiple awards during the first day of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Region VIII – Regional Culture and Arts Festival (RCAF) held at the Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT), Wednesday, December 10.
Among the events conducted were Instrumental Solo, Music, and Visual Arts Competition events composed of various categories began simultaneously across several venues inside the PIT campus.
EVSU’s Classic Guitar entrant in the Instrumental Solo event, Jhensen Earl Bregildo from EVSU Ormoc Campus, achieved a first-place finish with his rendition of “Sa Kabukiran” by Manuel Velez.
Additionally, EVSU’s representative in the Banduria category, Marjhon Balundo, accompanied by Klint Mark Acol, placed third in the same Instrumental Solo event.
Meanwhile, EVSU quadro singers category composed of Gemma Codilla, Yllanna Grace Okeke, Dynyss Mae Monte, and Ma. Kryzanne Fleur Gomez who sang “Hanggang May Kailanman”, placed second the Quartet category.
Additionally, EVSU Kundiman singer Mylje Rodriguez earned third place in the Vocal Solo Kundiman category with her rendition of “Malungkot ang Maya,” while EVSU Pop Solo singer Joel Capongcol Jr. also secured third place after a two-round performance.
Subsequently, EVSU Show Choir delegates secured the third placer title in the their category with their rendition of “Amakabogera” of Maymay Entrata, while the Standard Choral contingent ranked fourth in the same Music segment.
Further, in the Vocal Duet competition, EVSU singers Angilene N. Verzosa and Sophia G. Balansag showcased their duet performance of “Habang May Buhay”, placing fourth after the tally of scores.
Meanwhile, EVSU student-artist Irene Bitalo earned second place in the On-the-Spot Poster Making Competition under the Visual Arts category, with Hans Christian Rebano placing fourth in the Photo Contest competition within the same category.
In addition, EVSU representatives Angelo Dean Rowin Estremos and Reusheñah Mascariñas completed the Painting and Pencil Drawing competitions, respectively, as fifth-place finishers in the same category.
The festivities continue on the second day of the competitions this December 11, featuring scheduled performances in Dance and Theater categories and marking the ongoing showcase of artistic talents from participating State Universities and Colleges (SUC).
