As a kickoff to the two-week-long festivities, the Supreme Student Government (SSG) and Organizations’ Booth Fair officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the first day of the 21st Charter Anniversary Celebration of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Main Campus, held Wednesday, August 27, at the EVSU Open Field.
The opening ceremony was spearheaded by Dr. Benedicto Militante Jr., the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), along with Dr. Analyn Españo, the Vice President for Student Internationalization and External Affairs (VPSIEA), SSG officers, students, and guests.
In his welcome remarks, Dr. Militante emphasized that the event served as an opportunity for students to build connections, create meaningful experiences, and receive support from the wider EVSU community.
“This is an avenue for you to create your space, to bond, to meet new friends, and with the different schools that this University have. I think, hindi po kayo magkukulang sa support with all the students of Eastern Visayas State University. Again, ang masasabi ko lang ngayon, rise up, inspire boldly, and make this year an unforgettable experience, especially for freshmen,” said VPAA.
Meanwhile, Dr. Españo highlighted that students are not merely recipients of education but are also the key contributors and primary stakeholders in the university’s mission and development.
“And so, as we celebrate the quite milestone years of the university. We cannot just relegate to the side the very importance of our students being the sanctuary of our services; they are as well the primary stakeholders. The role of the students is not just to come to school and everyday report and finish the coursework, but as well as to contribute to what we do as a university,” Dr. Españo stressed.
The ceremony concluded with a vibrant cultural showcase, featuring performances by the Samleyaw Performing Arts group, along with festival dances presented by the students particularly the Buyugan and Sangyaw Festival performances.
Meanwhile, Shane Gayrama, a junior Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering student, shared her experience during the launching of the organizational booths.
“The opening of the booth fairs was something chaotic but oddly satisfying. Different programs from different schools utilized their creative juices very well and were able to offer various games and products, each with own unique twists. Although it was evident that most of the booths were not fully prepared, it was something to look forward to on the next days of the charter week,” Gayrama shared.
Said booth fair will run from August 27 to September 5, featuring a series of academic, cultural, and community-centered activities led by student organizations and colleges within the university.
