The Federation of Junior Marketing Association (FJMA) has something to boast anew as their volleyball crew remained spotless to top the Mixed Volleyball tourney after a three-set turnaround over the Students’ Association of Geodetic Engineering (SAGE) on Thursday, August 31.

Both teams brought thrilling volleyball action to the EVSU Inner Court in the title-clinching match, but it was the Marketistas who reigned supreme following their emphatic 27-29, 25-13, 15-11 reverse sweep of the Geodetic Engineering students.

Freshman Aron Jansen Ayuste delivered for his squad with 12 points off 10 attacks, an ace, and the match-winning block.

Glenn Banzuelo, who served as FJMA’s team captain, added a ten-marker four excellent-set showing for the Marketistas, on top of his antics that doused even more fuel to the fiery affair.

Opposite hitter Mark Angelo Barbo shared how he saw SAGE as a serious team to beat and his team’s approach when they were a set down.

“Actually we weren’t expecting na magdadaog kami kay watching ha gameplay han SAGE ha ira elimination matches, dominant hira,” said Barbo.

“Han second set na, an momentum namon continuous la ngan an mindset namon kay gusto na namon magdaog,” he added when asked what changed for FJMA after their opening-set loss.

An opener worthy of finals match ensued

with the two teams banking on their spikers’ prowess and capitalizing on each other’s service and setting errors. SAGE then trumped the spiking battle over FJMA after a late breakaway to score the extended 27-25 set.

From then on, a different FJMA squad entered the court who not only rolled on a 4-0 start but also kept their foes at bay, easily hitting the 20-point mark while SAGE struggled to breach double digits, trailing at 20-9.

Banzuelo’s dump and Barbo’s service ace later provided the finishing touches for the Marketistas who cruised to a lopsided 25-13 win and send the game to a decider.

With the glory just within reach, FJMA carried on with their scoring momentum as they doubled their lead before the final court swap (8-4), and never looked back to complete the bounce-back victory, 15-11.

The tournament, which lasted for three days, saw the Marketistas down three teams in the earlier rounds before setting up a finals clash with SAGE.
