Strengthening their knowledge in campus journalism and media in the digital age through plenary seminars and various competitions, The Industrial Wheel participates in the 2024 Regional Tertiary School Press Conference – Eastern Visayas (RTSPC-8) held at the Visayas State University (VSU), Baybay City.

After a five-year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, the said event, anchored on the theme “The Student Press in an A.I. World,” will feature seminars and workshops with notable journalist speakers and accomplished journalists in the country.

16 campus journalists from the publication will be attending the four-day event that will feature seminars, workshops, and journalism contests in individual and group categories.

Head/Technical Adviser of The Industrial Wheel Rex Palompon shared his confidence in the editorial staff’s potential and abilities as they participate in this year’s RTSPC.

“As The Industrial Wheel once again joins the biggest campus journalism competitions in Region 8, I find no fear, instead, I always believe in the potential and the abilities of the IW Staff knowing that yes, we are new in RTSPC, but I put my trust in them because they have served the publication, they have served the student organization for quite a number of years and through those years of service in the publication, for sure they have developed themselves to become skilled,” he said.

Meanwhile, radio broadcasting team anchor Liziel Altejar expressed the significance of the said event, and her aspirations to broaden her knowledge in journalism.

“With the domination of technology in today’s generation, RTSPC serves as a catalyst of change upholding truth and accuracy. I actually haven’t been in a press conference this big and as a journalist, I am hoping that this event will help me ascertain knowledge and unlearn things about campus journalism. I aspire that the workshops will enhance and practice my current knowledge and ability in writing as well as in radio broadcasting,” she said.

The said event will run from April 3 to 6, convening student publications and campus media organizations from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs), and Private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the region.
