No one successfully sets them aside as the champs of the dance floor take up the cudgels to defend their victory, like a garrison who stands guard of their base. They outshone those who threw down the gauntlet towards them and they never dare lose.

In a showdown of rhythmic grace and competitive dancing, the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) pairs of dancers owned the dancefloor as they once again took over the victory in the Dancesport competition of the Regional State Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (SCUAA) Meet 2023.

Step-back

In a little jive back in time, you would hear the chant of victory as the same delegations were hailed champions in the athletic art form of dancing during the Dancesport competition in the previous Regional State Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (SCUAA) Meet at Southern Leyte State University, Sogod, Southern Leyte.

This victory of Pia Lovelle Omega & Cerilo Soleybar III, Bernadette Caidlang & Nonito Jumao-as, Desiree Solejon & Harris Rapales, and Julie Anne Mercado & Nathaniel Parrilla made them wore a brand of shining gold and silver, with the pressure increasing in their succeeding performances.

“Pressure kaayo sa among part nga idefend ang gold para sa skwelahan and para proud ang mga tawo around me,” Cerilo Soleybar III shared.

But pressure is just a phase that prepares something better and brighter. For them, it was what shaped them to do better and take a great leap in the next step.

Step to the fore

In order to continue flashing brilliance and excellence in dancing, they had to keep improving and make something better than before. They must raise a standard that no other contenders will be able to reach and best them, so they tuned up their moves and delivered their performances in sync.

“We improved our connection to make a story that can attract the audience,” Pia Lovelle Omega expressed.

With collective effort of going beyond the beat of their triumph, practice, dedication, and discipline served as their arrow in aiming for the victory. It served as their reminder to push forward and never be confident enough that you would stop improving.

“Practice makes progress, walang ibang pamaagi para manalo kundi practice lang at dedication,” Desiree Solejon emphasized.

“It was the practice and discipline,” Nonito Jomao-as added.

Break a leg

A bold and fierce showdown in a combination of competitive dancing and musical interpretation were starred by Pia Lovelle Omega & Cerilo Soleybar III and Desiree Solejon & Harris Rapales as they defended their title as the holder of gold in Latin American Discipline and Modern Standard Discipline respectively.

Moreover, pairs Julie Anne Mercado and Nathaniel Parrilla did not miss the chance to earn a spotlight in their performances in Modern Standard Discipline as they bagged silver, while Bernadette Caidlang and Nonito Jumao-as settled for bronze in American Discipline.

The four pairs of dancers swayed and rocked the tune of Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba and Jazz in the Latin American Discipline, and Slow Waltz, Tango, and Quickstep in the Modern Standard Discipline.

Their consecutive victory decorates themselves as the kings and queens of the dance sport in the region.
