Memorabilia: In honor of the Past

Eastern Visayas State University honors the past as it celebrates the gift of present by launching President’s Memorabilia Exhibit presenting the works and collection of the former University Presidents and Administrators at the Administration Building Lobby last November 29.

Said exhibit is part of series of events in preparation for the official Investiture Ceremonies of Dr. Dennis C. De Paz as the fourth EVSU President on Dec 3 at the Summit Hotel, Tacloban City.

Dr. De Paz said that to fully appreciate the achievement and blessings that the university received, people should know and always remember how the past administrations strive to attain the well-known university in the present.

“The essence of the memorabilia is for the EVSU Community to know and see who are the former presidents of the university because I have noticed that the current generation do not really recognize these people. This is a way to honor them at the same time reintroduce the EVSU Community to these people who helped develop EVSU,” Dr. De Paz said during an interview.

Said exhibit displayed honor and pure history. There is still wisdom carved on the olden pages of the book collection of the former presidents. Medallions of honor still shines confidently rather than olden by tested time. If things can talk, the symbolic totem older than the university’s name today will be telling stories of how the university grew as time goes by. The center of attraction on the said exhibit features all former presidents and administrators’ charcoal portrait masterpieces created by an EVSU instructor, Alvin Ian Cillo. The exhibit seems to attempt to compress EVSU history in one wide view.

“I just want them to realize and feel that our university has full of talents and potentials” Sir Cillo said taking pride as the artist behind the charcoal portraits, emphasizing the capabilities of EVSUnistas.

The nostalgic charcoal portraits of Sir Cillo along with the other memorabilia in the exhibit stayed in display until the day of the Investiture Ceremonies formal gathering on December 3, to take back students, guests, faculty, members and staff to the colorful history of the university.
