Eastern Visayas State University Ormoc City Campus (EVSU-OC) swayed the guest of honors and visitors from different campuses into an enjoyable and engaging experience during the ‘Day for Ormoc City Campus’ on August 12.
Said activity, in line with the university’s 18th Charter Anniversary centered on the theme “One EVSU: Forward Together,” aims to strengthen the camaraderie among EVSU campuses, showcase the talents of their proud faculty and students, and celebrate the blessings the university received since it was converted from Leyte Institute of Technology in 2004.
“This is the first time that the university celebrated as one in the different external campuses. This is a time that somehow, not only the key officials but also the faculty and students are together in celebrating and thanking for the blessings that we got as a university since 2004,” EVSU OC Director Dr. Gerry B. De Cadiz said in an interview.
University President Dr, Dennis C. de Paz commended the resiliency and dynamism of the EVSU community that kept the university soaring higher; inciting that its consistency will lead to greater heights.
“We visited all the campuses. First time po na nangyari ito in the history of EVSU na talagang pinuntahan natin bawat campus in celebrating the Charter Month. So, for many years now, the university’s mission and vision stood the test of times, that its long-held values and traditions propelled us forward amidst this dynamic and fast changing times. Thus, our resiliency as a people, our dynamism as one family and our dedication as servants should continue as we move forward together.” Said Dr. de Paz.
Moreover, the ambiance went more delightful while the guests’ enjoy their meal as the EVSU acoustic band serenaded them with some of the generation’s OPM popular songs.
Also, guests swayed and twirled their way to the dance floor together through the Alugyaw Dance Company and Leyte Dance Sports’ jiving performances.
“I think this event is really a huge platform for each campus to talk about what they can do to make EVSU a more progressive and more improved university,” Leyte Dance Sport performer, Desiree Solijon, said.
Furthermore, unity and skills of the officials, faculty, and students were tested during the ‘Laro ng Lahi’ where they competed classic parlor games like Hep-hep Horay, Pitik Calamnsi, and Tumbang Preso. The games, especially the Tumbang Preso were a stroll down memory lane as the officials and faculty reminisced about their childhood memories.
“It was filled with laughter and friendship, memories that will last. A smile and a camera clicks another then in a flash” Jack Laurence Aida, The Observer Editor-in-Chief said.
The event ended with the awarding of the champs followed by happy goodbyes and see you soon. The satisfied smiles of the partakers are the receipts of one memorable and successful event. Here’s to more activities that will root for more unity and camaraderie among the EVSU community.
