Continuously raising EVSU’s banner in the field of academic excellence, fourth year student Shem Caandoy aced this year’s 39th National Civil Engineering Students’ Quiz regional elimination rounds, held at DPWH – Leyte 1st District Engineering Office in Palo, last August 31.
Battling against 15 other competitors from universities all over Eastern Visayas, Caandoy, together with his fellow quizzers Lee Justin Rondina and Jomelito Padit Jr., placed in the top five of the rankings.
Caandoy eventually emerged as champion with a total score of 12, pushing him closer to his campaign for the national championships.
“It really is an honor to represent the Civil Engineering Department and our dear EVSU in the regional and national stages. I will do my best preparations for the upcoming quizzes,” said Caandoy to The Industrial Wheel.
Meanwhile, Caandoy’s quizmates Rondina bagged third place while Padit took fifth in the overall tally.
Rondina will serve as Caandoy’s alternate represent the PICE-EVSU MSCS and the entire Eastern Visayas during the national level of the event.
Caandoy also shared some of their preparations for the contest.
“My preparations, include studying with my fellow quizzers and the guidance of our coaches, Engr. Mark Kevin Cidro and Engr. Hannah Entatano. Third year pa lang ako, na-join na ako han review with my seniors.“
His coach Engr. Cidro, meanwhile, expressed his exhilaration for Caandoy’s victory, which he considers a ‘historic win’.
“His win in the regional elimination round in the 39th NCESQ is, for me, a historic win because for a very long time hindi nag-first place ang EVSU sa event na yan.”
