Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) – Main Campus Team A emerged as the champion in the recently concluded Megachallenge Regional Cup 2024 and outsmarted 18 other teams from 10 different Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Region 8 on home soil.
The team consisted of Joseph Ong and Darlyn Abalos, 4th year BSCE students who were notably national winners in another Civil Engineering Quiz Bee conducted last year.
In an interview, Ong stated that they did not initially expect to win as all the other competitors did their part in preparing for the said competition.
“Of course, it felt surreal because deri namon inexpect kay maaram kami na we are not really the best among the students kay syempre I know na nagprepare gihap an iba pero we trusted in God. Everytime we start answering nagpre-pray talaga kami,” Ong stated.
He additionally stated that the triumph was not achieved through their efforts alone, but also with the collaborative support from their coaches, teachers, and classmates.
“An mga sugad hine, this is not just our effort, this is the summation of our effort, our coaches, and people behind, and of course the divine providence of God,” he added.
Meanwhile, the coach of the team, Engr. Mark Kevin T. Cidro, expressed his emotions after being called the champion and shared their preparations before the competition was held.
“Nalupad, it amon kasing-kasing nalupad because for a very long time, permi nala runner-up tas at least yana, champion na. We did our best, we did a review, we’re hoping na mag-champion and by God’s grace, champion kami,” said Engr. Cidro.
Meanwhile, Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Team B ended as first runner up, while another team from EVSU gained the second runner up.
The EVSU Team B was composed of Shem Caandoy, Karl Tingzon, and Kristine Leona who were guided by their coach, Engr. Hannah Marie C. Entatano.
The winning team was rewarded with 25,000 pesos and a full-review fee waiver at the MEGAREVIEW and Tutorial Center.
