Univ moves toward SMART Campus status in 20th Charter Anniv Celebration

With an aim to continually evolve to meet the demands of modern education, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) formally opens the 20th Charter Anniversary Celebration anchored on the theme “One EVSU: Together towards a SMART University,” marking the official start of the Academic Year 2024-2025, Monday, August 19.

The event commemorates a significant milestone of the institution, being a state university for 20 years as it fulfills the growing demand of quality-education overtime.

“The SMART Campus Project of the university came to be. And on the celebration of our 20 years, it is the fitting theme of our charter celebration,” University President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz stated in his Welcome Address during the Grand Opening Program.

Moreover, Dr. De Paz also introduced the plans and visions of the administration about the project’s aim in providing a sustainable institution for the future.

“With the implementation of this project, we will create a campus that is not only SMART in terms of technology, but also in terms of sustainability, efficiency, and inclusivity. The SMART campus project will also involve upgrading our infrastructure, including the establishment of state of the art laboratories, smart classrooms, and an enhance digital network that will connect all our campuses,” Dr. de Paz added.

Meanwhile, Electronics and Communication Engineering (BSECE) senior Aaron Sabela asserted the efficacy and relevance of the SMART Campus Project considering the growing needs of the students in the modern world.

“I think it’s a big step and important gihap hiya para ha aton kay siyempre we are living in an ever improving world especially in terms of technology. So, since gini-incorporate na naton an SMART university, that means aton na gihap ginta-take advantage na itom aton pag-utilize hit technology na bago na na-invent,” said Sabela.

The opening ceremony concluded with the sashing ceremony of the Mr. & Ms. EVSU 2024 candidates, followed by showcasing of performances from various colleges and external campuses, and a grand fireworks display.
