USWAG 2023 pushes through, welcomes frosh EVSUnistas

After several postponements due to abrupt schedule changes, the celebration for this year’s University Students’ Welcoming Activity & Gathering (USWAG) was finally pushed through to welcome university freshmen held at the Engineering Building, Inner Court, Friday, October 13.

Despite the bad weather conditions, the said welcoming activity still persisted by moving its venue from the University’s Open Field to the Inner Court.

In her welcome message, Hon. Dawn J. Oquiño, the Supreme Student Government (SSG) Main Campus President, extended her warm welcome to the freshman students and asserted that EVSU is a place where they can unleash their fullest capabilities.

“On behalf of the Eastern Visayas State University – Supreme Student Government (EVSU-SSG), I extend a warm and a heartfelt welcome to all university freshmen. Today, marks the beginning of an exciting journey. Eastern Visayas State University is not just a place of education, it’s a place where you will form lasting senses, explore your passions, and discover your potentials,” she said.

Oquiño also reminded the freshman EVSUnistas to be unhesitant to seek help and guidance to the faculty, staff, and co-students when facing challenges in the university.

Meanwhile, student performers from various college departments hyped up the crowd with their spectacular performances during the USWAG Yell Competition.

The College of Education (COEd) was hailed as champion in the said cheering competition, while the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) notched the 2nd place, the College of Architecture and Allied Discipline (CAAD) attained the 3rd place, concurrently the College of Technology (COT), College of Engineering (COE), College of Business and Entrepreneurship (COBE) received the consolation prizes of the said contest.

Kirk Deluvio, a first year student of Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAEd), shared how their team remained optimistic after the heavy rainfall, and expressed his enthusiasm after their department won in the yell competition.

“I was actually already worried when the rain poured, pero we were told na we are going to perform in the inner court na lang instead sa field na very muddy because of the rain. But, all the sacrifices have paid off since we won the yell competition, and we feel so great being the champion again and representing the College of Education Department, ” he said.

Deluvio also extended his heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and students of College of Education (COEd) who helped them unite and show-off their creativity.

The said event concluded with the awarding of winners and a photo opportunity.
